Between Light and Shadow
Brooks County, South Texas
The light was fading into that last stretch of the day—soft, quiet, and brief.
I had been sitting, watching and photographing the bird life in the brush when something shifted.
A bobcat stepped into the open.
For a moment, it caught me off guard—unexpected, silent, completely at home in that space. Low and controlled, it moved as if it were part of the landscape itself.
It paused just long enough for the light to find it… and for me to take a frame.
Then it slipped back into the shadows as if it had never been there.
Out here, moments like that don’t last.
